Stars to miss first round of NHL playoffs after Senators win in shootout
The NHL is expected to announce a schedule for the NHL playoffs on Thursday that includes a tiebreaker game for the second-round series, which begins in Buffalo on Wednesday.
Stars defenseman Erik Karlsson and Stars defenseman Alex Goligoski are scheduled to miss the first round, along with Ottawa forward Alex Chiasson, Detroit defenseman Ryan Sproul, Calgary defenseman Cam Talbot, Los Angeles forward Tyler Toffoli, Colorado forward Zach Parise and New Jersey forward Connor Brickley.
The Rangers, meanwhile, are expected to host the defending Stanley Cup champion New York Islanders in Game 1 on Thursday night, followed by Game 2 on Saturday.
The Kings, Devils and Flyers are also expected to play in the first-round on Friday.
The Islanders’ Stanley Cup victory was a huge disappointment for fans.
After being swept by the Bruins in the second round last season, the Islanders went on a tear in the playoffs.
They swept the Rangers in seven games and swept the Ducks in seven.
But they missed the playoffs for the third time in five years after falling to the Flyers in the Western Conference semifinals.
They lost in seven, too.
The Islanders will face the Flyers for the first time since March 6, when they lost 6-3 to the Ducks.
