A reporter is fired over her controversial tweets
A reporter for the Chicago Tribune was fired after her controversial Twitter posts went viral.
Tribune.com published the posts on Tuesday after a Tribune reporter asked a series of questions on her social media accounts, including her beliefs and her relationship with President Donald Trump.
On Thursday, Tribune President and CEO David Hickey released a statement calling out the reporter’s tweets, saying they were disrespectful and did not reflect the tone of our newsroom.
Hickey said he had received several threats from the public, which included threats to kill her and her family.
Hierksie’s termination comes after the Tribune published a statement saying Hickey did not receive any threats, but that the publication had received “at least one threat of violence” and was taking “immediate steps to ensure safety.”
Hickey was fired on Wednesday morning, according to a statement from Tribune Media Relations.
Tribune Media Relations declined to say why he was fired.
The newspaper also did not respond to multiple requests for comment.
