WATCH: Thousands rally to show support for Chicago tribune
CHICAGO — Thousands of people turned out for a rally Sunday night against the Chicago Tribune’s plans to move its headquarters to a new site in the Chicago Riverfront.
A crowd of about 5,000 gathered in downtown Chicago for a vigil, and many people were dressed in traditional tribal attire.
The Tribune, which is owned by Tribune Co., has faced growing pressure from protesters who say the Tribune should stay in its downtown Chicago headquarters.
The Chicago Tribune announced plans in April to relocate its headquarters in the Loop and move its newsroom to its headquarters at the Tribune Tower.
The company said it would pay $350 million for the project, and it would relocate its newsrooms to the Loop.
